Lift two of these adjacent slats and place the stem of your vegetable plant between these notches, securing the roots inside the planter bed. This allows the vegetables to suspend beneath the planter, while the roots are covered by soil and obtain the nutrients and moisture needed for proper growth. Perforations on each of the base slats also collect excess water, preventing overwatering. The deep design of this bed enables you to cover the vegetable roots with soil, and cultivate smaller plants above them.
